From Family Dog to Shelter Sweetheart — Rufus is Ready to Love Again

Once upon a time, Rufus had everything a dog could dream of: belly rubs from kids, evening walks with his family, and a home filled with love. But when his family had to move overseas, Rufus was left behind—not because he wasn’t loved, but because life took an unexpected turn.

At first, Rufus thought he was just boarding temporarily. He waited at the kennel door with hopeful eyes, certain his family would return. Days turned into weeks, and his tail wagged a little less each day. Still, when children walk past, he lights up, his heart holding onto the hope that one of them might be his.

Rufus is a gentle, soulful 4-year-old who’s house-trained, leash-savvy, and knows his commands. Raised alongside children, he’s patient and kind with little humans. He hasn’t had much experience with other dogs, but with calm, patient introductions, he’s been open to making canine friends. Cats, however, are a hard no—Rufus prefers a feline-free home.

He’s not broken, but he is breaking. And that’s why we’re looking for someone to be his hero.
